ICT Utilization in Primary and Secondary Education: Its Influence in the choice of ICT courses

Abstract

This study aimed to find out how ICT utilization in primary and secondary education influences students  in the choice of ICT courses. Specially, it sought answers to the following questions: What  is the level of ICT utilization in primary and secondary education;  What degree of preferences of BSCS students in choosing ICT courses? What is the degree of relationship between choosing  ICT courses with the level of ICT utilization in the primary and secondary education?; And is there a significant relationship between choosing ICT course and the level of ICT utilization in the primary and secondary education?

The researchers used descriptive method in gathering data and conducting the study. They administered questionnaire for the level of ICT utilization and degree of preferences. Other data gathering techniques like online surfing and library research were also used.

This study has a total respondents of 242 students. The study was conducted at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus particularly at the College of Computer Science. The respondents are selected BSCS students.

The researchers found out that ICT was not fully implemented in primary but is moderately utilized in the secondary level. and that there is a significant relationship between having a previous knowledge   about ICT and the preferences of the student in choosing ICT courses.
